The “Challenger 1” main battle tank was introduced into the British Army in 1983 as the successor to the “Chieftain”. It has a 120 mm L11A5 rifled tank gun and Chobham steel armour developed specially for this tank, which offers outstanding protection in combat. The “Challenger 1” owes its angular shape to this armour. The turret can be traversed through 360° within 13 seconds.
