DAILY RIDDLE: I was one of the first heavy tanks build in WW2. At the time, there was only French Char B1, which I outclassed easily. My main armament was 76.2 mm gun. Who am I ?
M4A1 Sherman. The main difference between the M4A1 and the original Sherman was the M4A1's 76 mm gun. The increase in caliber was insignificant, but the increase in range and stopping power gave these Shermans a fighting chance. An encounter of equal numbers of Shermans and Panzers was still likely to end in defeat for the Allies, but the Sherman could be built so quickly that their sheer numbers overwhelmed the Germans.
