Deployed for the first time at the Battle of Kursk, the Nashorn (rhinoceros) was a powerfully-armed tank destroyer fielded by the Wehrmacht. These vehicles were based on robust and reliable Panzer III and IV chassis and equipped with the most powerful anti-tank gun of the day, the Pak 43. It was an extra-ordinarily powerful 8.8 cm gun fully capable of punching a round through six inches of solid steel plate at ranges up to and exceeding one mile.
